Our Commitment to Driving Sustainability

Our Commitment to Driving Sustainability

At STS Group, we are committed to the principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) responsibility. Our ESG initiatives are designed to promote sustainable business practices, support the well-being of our communities, and uphold the highest standards of corporate governance. By integrating ESG considerations into our operations, we aim to reduce our environmental impact, foster a positive social footprint, and ensure transparent and ethicalmanagement. This holistic approach not only enhances our long-term performance but also aligns with our mission to contribute to a better, more sustainable future for all stakeholders.

Green Initiatives

We recognise the importance of responsibly investing in smart, green initiatives to create a better future for all. Over the years, we have undertaken measures such as recycling e-waste to reduce our carbon footprint. STS operates the largest fleet of private K-12 school buses in the GCC, consuming upwards of 10 million litres of fuel annually. We started to review the benefits of biofuel in July 2019 to reduce our carbon emissions and contribute to mitigating climate change.

1. Biofuel Fleet

One of our key initiatives involves the use of biofuel in our fleet, which supports the improvement and quality of emissions, thereby improving the overall air quality for everyone. 334 STS school buses (16% of the fleet) we operate in Dubai now benefit from Biofuel, reducing energy consumption and contributing to the overall goal of mitigating climate change.

2. Route Optimisation

Additionally, our focus on wider environmental performance is evident in our use of advanced PTV route optimisation software. This advanced software is essential for logistical planning, enabling us to create more efficient bus routes and reduce vehicle running time. By doing so, we significantly lower our carbon footprint. The software also enhances service delivery by generating estimated arrival times (ETAs) and providing delay notifications, ensuring we remain reliable and transparent with our customers.

Through these comprehensive measures, STS Group demonstrates a steadfast commitment to sustainability, continually seeking innovative solutions to protect the environment, promote a healthier future, and ensure the well-being of our employees and customers.

Introducing STS Traverse: Discover a Whole New Way to Learn About Road Safety

At STS Group, we have always been committed to promoting road safety awareness among students and the broader community. As a strategic service partner to the education community, we believe it is our responsibility to continuously educate safe road practices in the younger generation. This year, we are proud to unveil our latest initiative: the UAE’s first digital platform for road safety education, called STS Traverse.

STS Traverse is an independent portal, exclusively owned by STS Group, designed to engage the student community within and beyond our network of 87 schools across the GCC. To ensure maximum impact, we have partnered with local regulatory bodies such as KHDA, MOE, Dubai RTA, SRTA, and MoT Qatar. This will enable us to extend the reach of the campaign and educate over 100,000 students during the first year.

Through the digital platform, students will participate in workshops that will cover essential modules on topics such as travel protocol, emergency evacuation procedures, and the proper usage of Personal Mobility Devices like e-Bikes and e-Scooters. Moreover, the gamification platform features interactive games that will teach users how to navigate roads safely, test their reflexes, and expand their knowledge of safety laws.

To ensure a lasting impact, STS Traverse will be integrated into the school curriculum, encouraging students to view road safety as an ongoing responsibility. As they progress through the program, students will be awarded schoolhouse points based on their performance, motivating them to excel in their road safety knowledge and practices.

As we progress through the academic term, the scalable digital platform will evolve to incorporate new modules based on our safety campaigns. We envision STS Traverse creating a generation of Safety Ambassadors who will champion road safety within their communities. This program is not just about educating students; it’s about empowering them to become responsible and safety-conscious citizens of tomorrow.

With STS Traverse, we are excited to embark on a whole new way to learn about road safety, making it engaging interactive, and, most importantly, impactful. We invite the entire community to join us in this transformative journey toward a safer and more responsible society.

STS Group Joins EEG for a Clean UAE

STS Group, under the patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) and in association with the Ministry of Community Development, volunteered in the 21st cycle of the nationwide Clean UAE campaign held in Dubai on Saturday, 10 December. The waste clean-up campaign, organised by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), aims to bring together different sectors of the community with the shared ambition to promote sustainable development in the region. Towards this end, EEG has designed a set of nationwide programmes of which one of the most well-known is Clean UAE. This campaign has been successfully encouraging residents over the years to adopt eco-friendly practices.

The event took place in Saih Al Salam Area, Al Qudra, with more than 350 STS Group volunteers donning campaign t-shirts, reusable cotton gloves, and bio-degradable bags. They covered an extensive area of over 15 kilometers, diligently collecting waste at designated sites. The volunteers went above and beyond, uncovering various items such as vehicle tires, rugs, disposables, and broken glass, among others. In total, the Clean UAE campaign gathered 11,000 kilograms of waste, which was then handed over to the municipality for further processing and disposal. Recyclables were carefully separated and sent to established recycling facilities.

The campaign not only focused on clean-up efforts but also featured engaging activities like workshops and tree-planting competitions, making it a widely anticipated and well-participated environmental platform. The Clean UAE campaign serves as a celebration of the UAE’s unique environment and encourages support for its preservation.

Rajeev Ravi Kumar, QHSE Manager at STS Group, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to make a meaningful impact. By supporting the UAE’s efforts to become cleaner and greener, 250 of our employees came together to clean up our local area. Our participation in this year’s Clean UAE campaign is part of our commitment to promoting environmental responsibility within the community.”

Mind Matters: STS Group’s Commitment to Employee Mental Wellness

In a world where the pressures of modern life can often take a toll on mental well-being, STS Group has been focused on building a company culture that supports the mental health of our employees. Recognizing that a thriving workforce is not just about productivity, but also about the holistic well-being of the staff, STS Group has been resolute in our commitment to addressing the mental health needs of our employees. Over the years, we have taken bold strides to foster a culture of openness, support, and understanding through awareness workshops and our Care to Share support programme.

In September 2022, the QHSE team organized a transformative two-day workshop on mental health and wellness for our bus drivers. Dr. Arfa Khan, a seasoned Clinical Psychologist from the Aster Jubilee Medical Complex, engaged with over 3,000 drivers sparking insightful conversations about the significance of creating a supportive and comfortable atmosphere within the workplace. She helped them identify mental illnesses and equipped them with the tools to recognize stress triggers, facilitating a deeper understanding of the challenges that can affect mental well-being.

One of the highlights of this impactful workshop was the practical demonstration of coping techniques designed to manage workplace stress. Breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness practices were discussed. These healthy practices will serve as invaluable tools that the drivers would be able to integrate into their daily routines. Understanding these hands-on strategies instilled a sense of empowerment in the workforce.

The ripple effect of this workshop will positively impact job satisfaction levels, enhance productivity, and create a culture of compassion within the organisation. The efforts made toward the betterment of employee mental health have undoubtedly set a commendable precedent for other organizations in the region to follow suit.

Charlie the Helmet Hero: Meet Our Road Safety Champion

In a world that sometimes does not consider safety measures to be cool, one determined student from Year 5, GEMS Jumeirah Primary School (JPS) stands out as a shining example of responsibility and safety. Meet Charlie Senior, our very own Helmet Hero, whose dedication to road safety is an inspiration to us all.

At STS Group, we don’t just see ourselves as only a transportation company. We are a partner in your child’s educational journey. The importance of road safety is deeply ingrained in our mission, resonating beyond the school bus. Whether your child commutes on our school bus or explores alternative modes of transportation, like e-Scooters, we stand firm in our commitment to ensuring their safety. And Charlie, our Helmet Hero, personifies this dedication.

Charlie’s Mission

Charlie understands that safety is not merely a choice but a responsibility. His mission isn’t just to keep himself safe, instead, he has taken it upon himself to spread the message of safety throughout his school and beyond. As tempting as it can be to cut corners, Charlie stands firm in advocating for the use of helmets. He says, “Stay Cool Wear A Helmet To School,” reminding us that responsibility is the cornerstone of safety.

Charlie wears his helmet as a symbol of his commitment to safety. It’s more than just a piece of protective gear; it’s a declaration that he values his life and the lives of those around him. Charlie invites you to join him in shaping a safer future, one helmet at a time.

The editorial team from Journey magazine sat down with Charlie’s mother, Gabrielle Bliss, and Charlie himself, to gain insight into his vision for the safety campaign.

Tell us a bit about your helmet safety campaign. What inspired you to take it up?

“I started the campaign when I realised that most people who were riding bikes in the school were not wearing helmets. It’s the law in Dubai to wear a safety helmet and I think a lot of people don’t know, do they? Wearing a helmet is the safest way to prevent head injuries from road accidents. So, I launched my Stay Cool Wear A Helmet To School safety campaign on World Bike Day 2023. I even stood outside my school and advocated for everyone on a bike or scooter to wear a helmet. Most people agreed, my classmates, particularly were extremely supportive and embraced the initiative wholeheartedly.”

What is the one big change you would like to see in your community because of your safety campaign?

“With the support of my School Principal/CEO, Rachel Higgins, I have already got posters up in school to remind students, teachers, and parents as they leave to put their helmets on. It’s not just about reminding you to wear a helmet, it’s about creating road safety awareness. The impact is that everyone should be wearing a helmet, but also that people understand the importance of road safety.”

Who has been supporting you through the campaign and how have they helped you deliver your safety message?

“Wolfis Bike Shop is sponsoring my campaign. I have been talking to them about getting discounts on helmets for students. We have also been talking about doing a giveaway through a raffle draw. Winners get a new bike and helmet. That would be great. Eldar Schools from Abu Dhabi has also been in touch and we are discussing ways to collaborate.”

What advice would you give to other students who want to champion their own safety campaigns?

“Well, first, you have got to do a lot of research and find ways to promote it. So, once you are ready with the concept of your campaign and show it to people and then you have got to actually do the stuff. You can’t just promise something and not deliver on that promise.”

Inspiring a Safer Future

Through this campaign, Charlie is setting a standard for responsible behaviour that is both commendable and contagious. His story serves as a reminder that it takes just one person to ignite a spark of change and that one small action can profoundly impact an entire community. As STS Group continues to champion the cause of road safety, let us all take a moment to salute Charlie, our Helmet Hero, whose actions speak louder than words and whose dedication lights the path toward a safer tomorrow.

Strap in for Safety: A Tale of Two Social Media Triumphs

In the ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing, social media campaigns have proven to be a potent tool for brands to engage their audience, convey important messages, and foster a sense of connection. In this article, we delve into two remarkable social media campaigns that exemplify the power of storytelling, education, and community-building.

Campaign I: Memories on the Bus

The Memories on the Bus social media campaign brought together heartwarming narratives intertwined with a crucial message: the safety of our children. By weaving together, the personal recollections of school principals and the importance of safety features within school buses, this campaign succeeded in achieving two primary objectives, promoting safety features of the STS smart bus, and generating engagement through nostalgia.

School principals from GEMS Founders’ School Al Mizhar (GFS), GEMS New Millennium School (NMS), Cambridge International School (CIS), Al Khaleej International School (AKIS), and The Winchester School – Jebel Ali (WIN), enthusiastically participated, and shared stories from their childhood.

“I know STS as an educator and as a parent. Both my children have used STS buses all their school life and now as principal, I can completely vouch for that special touch that STS brings to bus journeys,” said Fatima Martin, School Principal of GEMS New Millennium School.

According to Akram Tarik, School Principal/CEO of GEMS Founders’ School Al Mizhar (GFS), “I remember, it was such a powerful experience to catch the bus to school with my brothers, every single day. Back then, the bus service was very different from what it is now. I know for STS safety is paramount, and it is the number one factor that we put in place to ensure children are receiving the quality education that they deserve.”

This campaign artfully highlighted the safety features of school buses, while evoking memories of simpler times. Encouraging viewers to share their own school bus stories created an interactive platform where people can relive their past while actively participating in the promotion of school bus safety. This engagement not only educated the community but also reinforced positive perceptions of school transportation.

Campaign II: Ready, Set, Evacuate

The Ready, Set, Evacuate social media campaign was a fun challenge to strengthen the emergency evacuation training for our transport staff. The campaign highlighted the need for preparedness for emergencies in school transportation and equipping them for quick response.

The testimonials from the school MSOs of GEMS Founders’ School Al Mizhar (GFS), American School of Dubai (ASD), GEMS New Millennium School (NMS), Cambridge International School (CIS), Al Khaleej International School (AKIS), and The Winchester School – Jebel Ali (WIN) served as powerful endorsements, solidifying STS Group’s reputation as a trustworthy partner dedicated to student safety.

The transport team at GEMS New Millennium School (NMS) was the quickest clocking in 43 seconds for a successful bus evacuation.

“STS Group and NMS conducted an emergency drill for school bus evacuation. The transport team was well-prepared and completed the evacuation in just 43 seconds. I am happy to say that our teams are ready to manage emergency situations should they arise in the future,” said Preetam Shetty, MSO of GEMS New Millennium School.

Both campaigns exhibited the art of crafting compelling narratives while delivering essential messages, all within the dynamic landscape of social media. As we delve deeper into the digital age, these campaigns serve as exemplars, reminding us that impactful marketing isn’t just about selling products. It is about connecting, educating, and creating positive change in the world.

STS Group and ITC Abu Dhabi Come Together to Empower Students as Road Safety Champions

STS Group has always prioritised student safety and as a responsible transport operator, they actively conduct interactive learning programmes for students, delivering lessons in road safety.

The Road Safety Awareness Campaign was launched on 8 February 2023 in Horizon Private School, Abu Dhabi, and was attended by senior members of the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), Road Safety UAE, and STS Group. The purpose of the campaign is to empower the student community to become advocates of road and transport safety through a unique learning environment with a curated road safety curriculum, interactive videos, and games.

During the campaign workshops, students are assigned appropriate learning levels (Primary/Intermediate/Senior) based on their grades. They undertake lessons in road safety management and participate in engagement activities with interactive games and quizzes that teach them to treat road safety as an ongoing responsibility.

The learning programme covers topics like travel safety protocol in the school bus and on the road and emergency protocol. One of the learning modules is based on local laws related to the use of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) like bicycles and e-Bikes. The campaign includes interactive board games designed to teach students about road safety practices and danger zones surrounding the school bus. Winners of the games receive goodie bags and one lucky student was awarded a bicycle, while another took home an e-Bike.

Sumaya Saeed Al Neyadi, Section Head of Road Safety in ITC Abu Dhabi explains: “ITC is committed to improving road safety in line with the vision of the authorities of Abu Dhabi and of UAE Federal level, and this School Road Safety Campaign is of particular interest to ITC and the society of the UAE. As a mother of three, I can relate to the desire of all parents to make sure that our children are safe on the roads. Road safety education must start at home and at school and hence, we are delighted to collaborate with STS Group on this exciting and important campaign.”

Steve Burnell, STS Group Managing Director, said “The campaign aims to reach over 65,000 students across 20 schools over the span of six months, with the purpose of embedding traffic safety principles, proper conduct on roads, and the values of safe driving in children from an early age. By doing so constructively and systematically, we will contribute to reducing road traffic accidents and help raise a generation of safer drivers for the future.”

The campaign has been a resounding success since its launch in February and has covered eight schools across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Dubai. The initiative aligns perfectly with STS Group’s holistic approach towards shaping a safety-centric culture within the community and reflects our core values of Safe, Timely, Smart.

Stuff The Bus with Hope: Connecting Hearts Across Borders A Year-Round CSR Campaign

This year, during Ramadan, we were excited to launch our all-year-round CSR campaign, Stuff The Bus with Hope. We teamed up with Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation (BHHF) to spread hope and joy to marginalised communities in Kurdistan and Africa by encouraging school children in the UAE to donate school items, educational supplies, toys, and goodies, while also finding a way to connect with the recipients in a meaningful way.

Launching the Ramadan campaign in March 2023, STS Group has been working with 87 schools in the UAE, that we operate in, to collect donations for displaced families. In addition to donating items, students were encouraged to record video messages and write heartfelt letters to families in Kurdistan and Africa, creating a tangible connection between the donor and receiver. Over 1,200 items were collected on the very first day of Ramadan.

“At STS Group, we believe in giving back to the community and helping those in need. We are thrilled to partner with BHHF to expand our Stuff The Bus campaign and create a more meaningful experience of giving back this Ramadan season. Through this campaign, we hope to encourage the children here in the UAE to consider what life might be like for the person they’re writing to, and this can be great for building empathy and becoming a well-rounded, global citizen,” said Steve Burnell, Managing Director of STS Group.

The campaign was launched at the beginning of Ramadan, a time of spiritual reflection in the region. It will continue throughout the year as an ongoing effort. At the beginning of the campaign, students were given the opportunity to volunteer in packing care packages. Parents and students were encouraged to donate items under the following categories: toys, educational books, stationary, clothes (for adults and children), school equipment (backpacks, paper, notebooks, etc.), along with one item of sentimental value to the donor and a letter explaining the item’s significance to them.

In June 2023, at the end of the academic term, we brought together 20 students to collaborate in sorting and packing donated items. This activity took place at the BHHF warehouse located in Dubai Industrial City.

“We are delighted to partner with STS Group on this initiative, which aligns with our mission of bringing hope and aid to those in need. We believe the letters carrying personal messages from students will make a substantial impact on the recipients and help build a lasting connection across the borders,” said Dr. Mariwan Baker, Founder and Chairman of BHHF.

STS Group is committed to creating a positive impact through its CSR campaigns. Stuff The Bus with Hope is a testament to our dedication to social responsibility and making a difference in the lives of others.

Creating Healthier Workplaces with Ergonomics

Employees in the UAE spend up to 40 hours a week sitting in front of a computer. Such a sedentary workplace culture can lead to a number of health issues and musculoskeletal disorders – tendonitis, lower back strain, and carpal tunnel to name a few. The good news is that one can greatly reduce many of these risks by focusing on ergonomics. Ergonomics is the science of designing the office space in such a way to reduce fatigue and discomfort. With the employee wellness in mind, the QHSE team at STS Group organised an ergonomics session with the NMC Healthcare, in February 2021. The online workshop was conducted by a licensed Physiotherapist from the NMC Specialty Hospital. The session focused on the proper use of Display Screen Equipment and included demonstrations of simple exercises and stretches that one could take to improve their posture.

Banksmen And Foremen Training

Banksmen and foremen form an essential part of STS Group’s operations team. Given that both roles oversee the implementation of safety rules and regulations in the company, they received regular training and refresher courses throughout the year.

Who is a Banksman and what do they do?

A designated person who safely guides bus drivers through vehicle manoeuvre, making them responsible for the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and other vehicles. The banksman plays an important role assisting in vehicle manoeuvre as drivers may not always have full view of their intended path of travel and when reversing the vehicle with limited visibility or space.

A banksman’s main form of communication with drivers is through hand signals. Through group activities and training exercises, the refresher course focuses on reinforcing essential qualities required to carry out their duties:

  • Excellent observation skills.
  • Hand/Eye coordination.
  • Sharp sight and hearing.
  • Soft skills such being assertive and a good communicator

Who is a Foreman and what do they do?

A designated person who supervises and supports bus drivers and bus guardians. The foreman undertakes thorough inspection of the buses. Buses undertake their journey only after all items on the foreman’s checklist have been completed and signed off. Regular maintenance and upkeep of all technologies and related devices on board each vehicle.

Beat the Heat Event

During the summer months, all our staff members including banksmen, foremen, bus drivers and guardians, and the STS Auto Services personnel undergo the Heat Injury and Illness training workshop. They are advised on health and safety practices, and preventive measures to manage and treat heat stress.

Wellness Bus

Infection and Disease Control workshops were conducted for our bus drivers and bus guardians. Our teams received hands-on training on the proper way to sanitise and disinfect hands and surrounding surface areas, and the right way to dispose face masks and gloves.

The Basic Life Support (BLS) workshop educated our transport staff in the general concepts of BLS and taught them how to initiate the Chain of Survival. The event was designed to teach the importance of taking the right action quickly and confidently.

The STS – Aster

STS Group teamed up with Aster DM Healthcare to create the STS-Aster Wellness Bus initiative, a mobile medical service conceptualised to provide free medical care and to enhance health awareness in the community. The two-day event provided health screening and general consultation for STS Group employees and staff. The Wellness Bus was primed with tools to conduct basic health checks such as physical examination by doctors, bio-physical measurements (height, weight, body mass index, visual acuity) and blood investigation. Over 3,000 members of our staff underwent the screening in two days.

Getting to School Safely:

School Bus Danger Zone

The yellow bus is one of the most common motor vehicles on the road. It is also the safest. However, getting on and off the school bus can be challenging especially for young children. With this is mind, the School Transport Services team conducted a Danger Zone workshop at the GEMS Wellington Academy, Al Khail. Through a variety of engagement activities, students from FS1 to Grade 6 learnt about safe distances and danger zones surrounding the bus. Students watched educational videos on travel safety protocol to understand where to stand and how to behave while waiting for the school bus.

The children also participated in colouring exercises to help understand and remember the danger zones. Upon completion of the workshop, each student received a safety badge and certificate!

Safety practices to keep in mind

The Danger Zone is the space within 10 giant steps around the bus.
✓ Golden rule to remember: If you can’t see the driver, the driver can’t see you either.
✓ Get to the boarding point at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Running to catch the bus is dangerous and can lead to injuries.
✓ Wait until the bus stops, the door opens, and the bus guardian signals you to board the bus.
✓ Never enter the Danger Zone to pick up items such as bags, papers, etc. Inform the bus guardian.

School Bus Emergency Evacuation Programme

An important aspect of STS Group’s safety training chapter is the emergency evacuation programme for the school bus. This involves developing an effective evacuation plan will live evacuation drills carried out at regular intervals through the year.

In real-life emergencies, only two to five minutes are available to complete the evacuation procedure before the situation escalates. To carry out a smooth evacuation involving children, it is crucial for bus drivers and bus guardians to be familiar with the evacuation policies, procedures, and techniques. STS Group worked closely with Safe Fast Fire and Safety Training LLC to implement an emergency evacuation training curriculum that met our checklist of policies and goals.

Our bus drivers, bus guardians, and supervisors underwent a full day’s training involving role playing of multiple evacuation scenarios. Each session was timed and reviewed to better understand how evacuation could have been swifter and more efficient. The ideal time for a successful evacuation is two minutes, which our teams were able to achieve after a few rounds of practice. Such repeated exposure to various possible scenarios helped our transport staff be better equipped with escape routes, and the proper procedure for leaving a vehicle in during an emergency.

Our teams received hands-on training to manage various types of scenarios:

  • Front door evacuation.
  • Rear exit evacuation.
  • Emergency window evacuation.
  • Evacuation when the bus is filled with smoke.
  • Evacuation involving a sleeping child.
  • Evacuation of special needs students (and students with medical conditions).

Fire Safety Training

Keeping A Cool Head While Dealing with Fire

As part of STS Group’s ongoing commitment to health and safety at the workplace, we conducted a series of fire safety training workshops for our operations team. This training is crucial
for our transport teams as it teaches them how to respond in the event of an emergency and act safely and responsibly to mitigate the risk of injury. Treating fire safety as a priority ensures that our staff are not caught off guard and know what to do in the event of a fire. This is especially important as they deal with children on a day-to-day basis. The full day event was conducted by trainers from Save Fast Fire and Safety Training LLC. Our Bus drivers, bus guardians, and supervisors participated in toolbox talks that helped them understand how to identify potential fire hazards and the various kinds of fires. They also took part in practical demonstrations on the use of fire extinguishers. The hands-on training experience left them feeling prepared and confident. Learning basic fire-fighting techniques helps prevent small fires from becoming big emergencies and allows our team of supervisors to prepare for fire safety and implement preventive measures

Coping With Change

The start of the new term marks a big change in the lives of families with school going children. Parents and students have had to deal with constant change over the past year and seem to be coping with fears around safety. As most parents seem to be grappling with how best to support the young ones in the family, the Communications team at STS Group spoke to Dr. Binoy Nellissery, a Specialist Neonatologist and Paediatrician practising at Aster Hospital Al Qusais.

How can I support my child and ensure their mental wellbeing?

The start of a new term can be nerve-wracking for students, evoking a range of emotions from apprehension to anxiety. The advent of the pandemic has heightened the stress of separation anxiety and isolation. Often, children will present signs of mental illness that are not quite the same as adults. You may observe changes in behaviour, mood, sleep patterns, appetite and/or interactions with others that have a negative effect on your child’s day-to-day activities.

Seek help if your child is experiencing any of the following:

  • Extreme outburst or excessive mood swings.
  • Worrying that leads to stomach aches or headache.
  • Avoiding activities that they previously enjoyed, such as spending time with friends.
  • Unusually quiet, sad, or reserved, preoccupied.
  • Change in appetite – eating considerably less or more.

What changes should I make to nutrition to increase my child’s immunity?

A balanced and healthy diet can ensure a robust immune system. Inclusion of citrus fruits, yellow fruits, ginger, garlic, green leafy vegetables, almond, turmeric, and yogurt can strengthen the child’s immunity. Keeping the body hydrated is also very important and adequate vitamin D supplements have been found to be supportive, as demonstrated by studies. Ensuring adequate physical activity must also be considered a priority.

What should I keep in mind before sending my child back to school?

Create awareness among children regarding the spread of COVID-19 as well as the preventive measures like appropriate use of face masks and hand hygiene. Older child should get vaccinated as per the recommended age.
